Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a product with great advantages and numerous uses. Among its current indications is the treatment of alopecia and skin aging.

One of its main advantages is that it is a product that is obtained from the patient themselves, so it does not cause allergy or rejection problems. Furthermore, it does not require prior tests, only the dermatological evaluation of the patient.

What does the treatment consist of?

A little blood is extracted, which is placed in a centrifuge to separate the blood into several parts. One of these parts is the PRP, which we will use to infiltrate it with the help of very fine needles in the area of the skin or scalp that we want to treat. We will add a calcium compound to the PRP to activate the platelets and make them release growth factors, which is the key element of this treatment.

It is a minimally painful technique and very good results are achieved with it. Platelet-rich plasma contains abundant growth factors, they are substances that help generate new blood vessels in the area that we infiltrate, reaching more nutrients and that help us increase the proliferation of cells and fibers, including some as interesting and well-known as collagen and elastin, which give consistency to the skin.

As a complication of the technique, a small hematoma could appear in the area of the infiltration, especially in the area around the eyes. After the application of PRP, the application of creams with arnica is recommended to avoid small papules in the injection areas of the neck and décolleté, as well as a digital massage in the areas of thinner skin. Furthermore, on the day the technique is performed, it is not recommended to sunbathe or apply creams directly. It is also not advisable to go to saunas or gyms after the treatment.

What are the results of this treatment?

In the case of scalp infiltration for the treatment of alopecia, the appearance of new hair and an increase in the thickness of the existing hair is achieved. All of this is perceived as an increase in capillary density.

In the case of skin infiltration (face or neckline) for the treatment of photo- or chrono-aging, it is possible to increase elasticity, reduce sagging, increase luminosity, reduce wrinkles, cases of alopecia and post-transplant surgery. of hair.
